Hays Property - January 2010

Hotspots

Project Managers/Directors will be in most demand in the fit-out space within commercial/retail as major corporate banks, IT companies and MNCs expand. With the improving economy, companies are commencing projects that were planned but put on hold when the GFC hit. In addition, some companies are expanding. New buildings are also being developed and this has seen companies move to less expensive spaces.

Facilities management vacancy activity has now stabilised following the increase in recruiting levels late last year. Employers continue to seek local FM talent, specifically within the commercial and data centres.

The coming quarter

Permanent hiring intentions are positive, with new jobs currently being created.

Employer trends

Employers are maintaining or in some cases slightly increasing salaries. They have also reduced their candidate expectations. The demand for expatriates has decreased in the property market since their salary expectations were often far above market rates. Instead, employers want local candidates who will accept local salaries.

Candidate trends

There has been a decrease in candidate levels, making the market more candidate-tight.
